May I take this opportunity to introduce myself…I am TPC’S Owner, RAQUEL MUIA.

I have enjoyed a busy and productive career performing as a commercial dancer appearing in many diverse areas including musical theatre, TV commercials, fashion parades, documentaries and television.

I began dancing and performing ‘seriously’ at the age of 10. In my late teens I commenced working as a free-lance Teacher in many WA Studios from 1985-1997 and then became the creative director of one of WA’s leading performing arts studios; TPC. Our studio caters for approx. 350-400 students a week employing 20+ Staff – a small business with a large responsibility; nurturing and training WA Youth to achieve their goals and aspirations.

My training began with Maria Gangemi at the Gangemi School of Dance. In my early teens I was very fortunate to have been exposed to my Mentor; Peta Norton at the Peta Norton School of Dance here in Morley where I made life-long friends - ‘Miss Sandy’ (Reception), ‘Miss Bonita’ (Senior Faculty) and ‘Miss Danielle’ (Vocal Department)… Upon the Studio’s closure, I enrolled with THE PERFORMANCE COMPANY in 1989, purchased the business in 1994, celebrating 28 years!

During my career I have been fortunate to have been exposed to the commercial and corporate sector of the industry including providing entertainment & choreography for: WAFL, AFL, SBL and the NBL, Rally Australia, Hopman Cup, World Swimming Championships, Surf Life Saving Championships, Perth Glory and the Friendship Games. During this time I also performed for the Perth Wildcats as a loyal dancer for eight years and a West Coast Eaglette concurrently for two of those years. I was a featured back-up Dancer for many local and visiting artists; from Australian TV personality, Jo-Beth Taylor (Hey Hey Its Saturday) on Eddy Maguires ‘Footy Show’ to Scotlands pop-singer/songwriter, Jimmy Sommerville (Bronski Beat).

I have also trained and worked as a character dancer (‘open faced’ and ‘suit-operator’) for companies who provide children’s animated shows. I have played the roles of ‘Sailormoon’, Fred Flinstone, Huckleberry Hound and George Jetson (to name a few) for Disney, Hanna-Barbera and Characters Down Under.

These roles led me to choreographing children’s live entertainment shows such as ‘Barbie’, Astro Boy, Sonic the Hedgehog and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs.

My training in dance knowledge and ethics as such has given me world-wide opportunity and recognition. I have also assisted in the writing of syllabi for small children and the appropriate dance steps and relevant music for children aged 4-10yrs throughout Australasia in particular. In addition, assisted in the producing of the CSTD Acrobatic Syllabus specialising in the Male component.

I have 3 CSTD Diplomas in Dance, taught in numerous studios throughout Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, The Philippines and China, providing tuition to hundreds of students and their respective teachers who employ me to inspire them with choreography & teaching methodology.

I have been a guest teacher for the WA Academy of Performing Arts and Guest Faculty in Workshops for Examiners & Dance Federations both in Australia and internationally.

I feel I have contributed to the promotion of dance in WA and assisted in giving Perth dancers of all ages the opportunity to learn and be exposed to world class Artists, Teachers and Choreographers; Justin Timberlake’s Dancers; Fergie’s Choreographer & Dancers; Choreographers from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, Choreographers from Edge Performing Arts in LA and Michael Jacksons Dancers to name a few. TPC students and staff have travelled to further educate themselves in different dance genres & cultures to dance expos & festivals in Sydney, Queensland, Singapore, Malaysia and most recently the Gold Coast in 2014.

In 2006 I returned to the Perth Wildcats as Assistant Game Night Producer and in 2007 added the role of Resident Choreographer.

Thanks to Basketballs comeback I continue as Game Night Producer and Events/Entertainment Choreographer at the Perth Arena.

I began my Training as a CSTD Examiner mid-2009 however due to my pregnancy, chose to put all aspirations in this area on hold for the time being. I hope to continue my Training in the near future and achieve this status within the CSTD.

I am also the Choreographer for International Artist; Sarah Harmony, ABSOLUTE KYLIE. All Cast members are purely trained and provided courtesy of TPC having been given opportunities locally, inter-state and internationally, wowing audiences with our vibrant, dynamic and spectacular show.

I am also proud to acknowledge the reputation we are renown for in the corporate and commercial sector providing entertainment to thousands of audiences throughout Western Australia and consultation to Agents and Producers world-wide.

The TPC Family consists of many former young Dancers who have trained at TPC and who are now some of Perth’s most noted Professional Dancers and Teachers who all bring their unique and exciting flair to The Performance Company.

TPC is home to the PERTH WILDCAT DANCERS/KNIGHTCORP DANCERS who are one of Australia’s full-time leading Sports-based Dance Troupes.

We are also proud of our association with the West Coast Eagles AFL Club with TPC Dancers providing the new West Coast Eagles ‘Cheer Crew’ in 2015.

We are also very proud of the Individual Students who have pursued Professional Careers performing as Backing Dancers on X-Factor, for Jessica Mauboy, Top 10 SYTYCD, World Wide Cruise Liners, Tokyo Disney, various Theatrical Musicals, Ringling Bros, TV & Film; various TVC’s and movies such as ‘The Great Gatsby’ and most recently, Channel 44’s Christmas Eve Special.

THE PERFORMANCE COMPANY hopes to nurture, encourage, train and provide for ALL students with their best interest solely our priority, relevant to their age, standard, career path and selected avenue. Myself and the TPC team…look forward to the challenge of 2018!
